An airliner broadcasts its position several times a second, all the way to the ground. Terminal reads that. Most apps show the airline's status field instead, and that updates when the airline gets round to it.
Same aircraft, same minute. One phone was told. The other is still waiting for a status field to change, and it will show "approaching" until it does.
02 Knows the airport
The airports publish which side of security each restaurant is on. I read all of it, 753 places across eight airports, and tagged every one. On a connection you only get the list you can walk to.
03 Handles the break
The moment your flight is cancelled, every other departure on the route is on screen: number, time, whether it is still running. You read it walking to the desk, not standing at it.
Seven more departures in the next two hours, on three airlines. That is the list you want before the queue forms.
